Privacy Policy

1. Who this covers

This policy explains how Makert ("we", "us") handles information for the people who use it: Makers (who run a shop) and Buyers (who order from one). Each Maker is the person you are buying from; when you order, you also share information with that Maker.

2. What we collect

From Makers: the details needed to build and run your shop — your name, email, shop name, location, branding, product and pricing information — and the billing details needed for your subscription (handled by Stripe; we do not store your full card number).

From Buyers: the details you enter at checkout so the Maker can fulfil your order — your name, contact details (such as email), the items you ordered, and, if you choose delivery, a delivery address. We do not collect or process payment for your order — you pay the Maker directly, off-platform, so Makert never sees your card or payment details for an order.

Automatically: basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and pages visited, plus essential cookies that keep you signed in and your cart working.

3. How we use it

We use this information to operate Makert: to build and host shops, show orders to the right Maker, send order and account emails, bill Maker subscriptions, keep the service secure, and list active shops in the public directory. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers we need to run Makert, and only as much as they need:

• Stripe — to bill Maker subscriptions securely (Maker billing only; never Buyer order payments).
• Microsoft Azure — hosting, database, image storage and content delivery.
• Azure Communication Services — sending transactional email (order and account notifications).

When you place an order, the details you enter are shared with that Maker so they can fulfil it. We may also disclose information if required by law.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies — to keep you signed in, hold your cart, and protect forms. They are scoped to the specific shop or site you are on. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. How long we keep it

We keep information for as long as needed to run the service and meet legal and accounting obligations. A Maker's shop data is kept while their account is active; order information is kept so Makers have their order history.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information. A Maker can close their account and request deletion of their shop's data; when a Maker is deleted, their associated shop data is removed. Buyers can ask the relevant Maker, or us, to update or delete the details held about them, subject to legal retention requirements.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information, including keeping each shop's data isolated from every other shop's. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

9. Children

Makert is not directed at children and is intended for use by adults running or buying from a local business.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "last updated" date.
